A Critical Reading of "Ghaedeye Bazi", a Novel by Firouz Zenouzi Jalali, Based on Julia Christeva's Theory of Abjection

Message:
Abstract:
There have been numerous theoretical links between literature and psychoanalysis. Every one of these theories has provided us with new insights into reading، understanding and analyzing literary works. From amongst such theories، Julia Christeva''s theory of abjection makes a connection between the outer world، the world of text and the author as the speaking subject. ''Ghaedeye Bazi [the rules of the game] is a psychoanalytical novel written by Jalal Firouz Zenouzi Jalali. In this novel، the narrator indicates the pains and obscenities of human soul; the text is a mirror reflecting the mind''s beastliness and lies. This article aims at showing how Christeva''s abjection theory can help us analyze a literary work، and how it can give us new readings and interpretations of a text. By taking a descriptive-analytic approach، the research seeks to demonstrate how the narrator tries to adopt his identity by making himself distant from his mother and delineating his boundaries from hers. The study also focuses on the way texts can reveal the existing crises of the author، the narrator and the society. In this novel، the author/narrator functions as a speaking subject who chooses to purify his soul and his surrounding environment by using a semiotic language.
