Investigating the Effective Factors on Inadvertent Shooting of Tehran Police Command Staff

In order to maintain order and security, law enforcement officers are allowed to use weapons in carrying out assigned missions, but sometimes their shooting might be contrary to the provisions and lead to civil and criminal liability. The present study aimed to determine the factors affecting the occurrence of inadvertent shootings carried by Tehran Police Command Staff. In terms of its objectives, the present study is of an applied research type and in terms of methodology it is of a descriptive-survey research type. The statistical population included 2500 police stations’ administrative staff of Tehran Police Command. 333 individuals were selected as a sample of the study using simple random sampling method. The data were collected by means of a questionnaire and they were analyzed using SPSS software and t-test. The research findings indicated that education weakness, poor weapons and equipment, the police specific mission characteristics, mismanagement, adverse environmental conditions, uncertainty and lack of knowledge about laws and regulations, and individual characteristics are effective in employees’ inadvertent shooting. The adverse environmental conditions had the most and education weakness had the least impact on inadvertent shooting.
