The Investigation of the Relationship between the Use of Mass Media and the Sense of Security among Women in Yazd

Today’s world is the world of mass media. The importance of mass media is to the extent that they affected the other social institutions such as family, education, university, etc. These devices have various functions and play different roles in the society. The lack of social communication means a relative stagnation in human life and is an obstacle in the way of any kind of social progress. The present study has been conducted aiming at investigating the relationship between mass media use and sense of security among the women in Yazd. This study was conducted in survey method. The research statistical population was the over 15-year-old women of Yazd city. According to the Census conducted in 2006, this population was 252186. The sample population (280) was determined using Cochran formula. The sampline was conducted by multistage cluster sampling method. Research results showed that mass media use is low among the women in Yazd and their sense of security is low, too. There is a significant relationship between the mass media use and the extent of sense of social security among the women in Yazd, which means that as the use of mass media goes up, the sense of social security increases. Therefore, for increasing the women’s sense of social security we should increase their use of mass media. Of course, it seems that the need to increase the use of mass media refers to the quality of the programs rather than their quantity; and it is the quality of the programs that can be associated with the sense of social security.
