The Persian Gulf wind analysis using meteorological synoptic stations data

Abstract:
In this study, in order to assess of wind variations pattern of in Persian Gulf, synoptic wind measured data in 13 stations, from beginning of station established till2007, which are located at northern part of Persian Gulf, have been analyzed. So, annual and monthly wind roses as well as wind speed frequency distribution graphs are plotted. For updating previous investigation, it was tried to present new and appropriate classification for each station base on having same annual wind pattern and sample wind pattern is defined for every stations. Afterwards, wind variations in northern part of Persian Gulf were evaluated at long period of time as well as different seasons based on natural and geographical situations and dominated meteorological regime as well. The data Analysis shows that in the western coastline prevailing wind direction is from west northwest that with moving to center of the Persian Gulf is tended to west and near the Qeshm Island is southwest and furthermore it has southern direction at Bandar-Abbas and Strait of Hormoz. Data analysis illustrated that the form of coasts as well as existence of mountain ranges parallel to them affect direction of systematic winds along north coast of Persian Gulf although. The affection reduce by keeping out from them and disappear in the stations located in island so that for stations which located in the sea (such as Siri and Aabu-Musa), prevailing wind in all seasons is westerly. Also intensity of prevailing systematic winds reduce from west to east of Persian Gulf. Nevertheless perpendicular component to coast have been developed and its intensity and annual duration will have been increased. Because of coastline position and coastline alignment, this component become prevailing wind direction in Bandar-Abbas Generally, the study results demonstrate that the pattern of prevailing wind direction indifferent regions of Persian Gulf depends on the direction and position of coastline, seasonal wind conditions and coastal features (such as mountains),Hence Proximity among the stations doesnt result in having samewind pattern.
