An Analysis of the Structure of the Quranic Language within the Contemporary Metaphor Theory of

One aspect of the miracle of the Qur''an is having an elegant form and a structure based on human thinking that reflect incorporeal and spiritual aspects using sensory and material aspects. The aim of this study was to analyze and describe the structures of the metaphorical language of the Qur''an based on «the contemporary theory of metaphor» and division of conceptual metaphor by George Lakoff. In this theory، metaphor is any understanding and expression of an abstract concept in a more concrete concept. This study was performed using the descriptive–analytical method. Following the introduction of the structure of the language of the Qur''an، the authors extracted the data from different places in the Qur''an and analyzed them based on the theoretical framework of the research، although the extent of the Qur''anic metaphorical structures is beyond this single study. The analysis gave valuable results including the fact that a large part of the Qur''anic structures are metaphorical and the Qur''anic metaphors exceed linguistic or literary metaphors. Furthermore، commentators'' disagreement in interpreting some Qur''anic metaphorical structures roots in their ignoring the function and cognitive concepts of the metaphors. Finally، the style of expression، semantic structure and Qur''anic concepts are a form of combination from various languages (mystical، symbolic، and synthetic) and even metaphorical and there is a regular link and a coherent relation between structural elements of the Qur''anic language.
