Manifestation of Quranic Verses in Hakim Shefai Isfahani's Anthology

Sharaff-ol-din Hassan Hakim Shefa''i Isfahani was a 10th-11th century (AH) poet، a mystic، and a competent physician. As a contemporary to the Safavid dynasty specifically King Abbas I، he is known as one of the founders of ‘Indo-Isfahan’ or Safavid poetic style. It is mentioned in Alam Ara chronicle that his position in poetry brought him the title ‘poet laureate of Iran’. His anthology includes odes، sonnets، incorporate stanzas، tarkīb-bands (literally “composite-tie”)، and quartets of 12000 verses altogether، out of which 1060 belong to his sonnets. As a sonneteer، Hakim Shefa''i is considered a follower of Hafiz، Saadi، and Mawlānā. He has imitated Baba Feghani Shirazi in his sonnets. His skill and interest in practicing mystical thoughts as well as his special competence in Arabic morphology and syntax have made his anthology a book so enriched with eloquent and well-established Arabic terms and expressions. Out of his expertise in Arabic، his anthology has gained further enrichment by drawing upon a wealth of Qur''anic verses so much for one as to find many of the verses in different devices، including metonymy، allusion، hal، adaptation and allegory، containing Qur''anic concepts and the Prophet’s and the Infallibles'' names or remarks. These conceptual elements are utilized through his skilled phrasing، reasoning، and deep speculations. Using a variety of influence practices based on the analysis of such elements as lexemes، propositions، reports، revelation-fundament، ironies، interpretations، this study aims to statistically present the different forms of Qur''anic manifestations as well as the names and life stories of the Islamic Prophet and Imams in Hakim Shefa''i''s anthology.
