An Investigation of Occurrence, Resources and the Fate of Pharmaceutical Contaminants in the Surface Water of Karaj River

Micro pharmaceutical contaminants have been diffused in rivers with high sustainability and bioaccumulation due to various physiochemical functions or biologic activities. Karaj river is one the largest aquatic ecosystems in Alborz province. The purpose of this study is to investigate the occurrence، resources and the fate of pharmaceutical contaminants in Karaj River. The research method was field observation and descriptive-analysis and data analysis is qualitative. For doing this، valid scientific databases of pharmacology were studied and the most up-to-date references including books، articles، and experts were used. Pharmaceutical remaining is entered into the waste water networks via urine and faeces and thus they are discharged by waste water treatment through the septink tanks in Karaj River. The resources of pollution were investigated by the method of division resources into two sources of point resources and diffusion nonpoint in the Karaj River. Waste water treatments and the landfills were the resources of point pollution while the biosolids are the resources of diffusion. The Biodegradation، Photo degradation، Absorption and biotransportation are the effective factors in the fate of contaminants by the moderate climate in Karaj River. To control the resources of pollution is applicable proposals in the present study.
