Assessment, Evaluation, and Explanation of Attachment to God in the Islamic Culture Context

Message:
Abstract:
Introduction
Beside parental attachment، attachment including people’s relationship with God، as an evolutionary construct influencing the development process، has been recently taken into consideration.
Method
The present study aimed to answer this question that whether people’s relationship with God in the Islamic culture can be assessed، evaluated and explained within the framework of Attachment Theory to God. To this end، 30 individuals working in a military unit (male) were randomly selected through applying convenience sampling method. This is a qualitative research. Hence، to collect data، an attachment to God semi-structured interview was held (Proctor، 2009).
Results
The results of the theoretical analysis، considering Grice’s rules of spoken discourse (1985) and separating based on three attachment styles (secure، avoidant، anxious) and nine attachment indicators for attachment to God (mental image of God، experience a relationship with God، sense of doubt and integrity in relationship with God، positive self-perception، positive perception of God، seeking closeness to God، separation protest، secure shelter، and secure base)، indicated that consistent with Attachment Theory to God، Muslim relations with God can be assessed، evaluated and explained within three attachment styles، i. e.، secure، ambivalent and avoidant.
Discussion
The obtained results، except for some indicators of avoidant attachment style، were in line with indicators of Attachment Theory to God.
