Construction and Standardization of a Suicidal Tendency Questionnaire among Soldiers

This study intended to construct and standardize a Suicidal Tendency Questionnaire among soldiers. 300 soldiers serving in the military garrisons, were selected by convenience sampling. For this purpose, a questionnaire of 35 questions was designed to assess the suicidal tendency among soldiers, using theoretical bases and personality characteristics and traits of those committed suicide. After the completion of the questionnaires by soldiers, data analysis was done using SPSS statistical software. The results showed that the Cronbach's α indicating the internal reliability and consistency of the questionnaire is equal to 0.933 which is high and appropriate. Construct validity gained through factor analysis as well as the results of exploratory factor analysis with varimax method was desirable. As a result a questionnaire of 34 questions was constructed including five elements: Measures of mental, individual and family health, hope for the future, self-concept and adjustment. Eventually, the overall cut-off point separating each of the five sub-scales was calculated using the mean and standard error of the mean. If identify soldiers potential suicide, Psychological and social support and urgency can be prevented many acts of violence against self and supported many people.
