Convening Operational workshops on teaching practical skills: a perceived necessity

Introduction
Triage is the basis for incident management and triage training to medical emergency faculty in planning Disasters is a very important issue. This study has been done with the aim of evaluating the effects of simulated workshop triage on their learning level and determining their satisfaction with the operational workshop.
Materials And Methods
This quasi-experimental study was carried out on 15 senior students of medical emergency in the first semester of 2014-2015 in Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. Teaching fundamental modified triage was done in a two-hour meeting. After a week, workshop triage training was carried out in a simulated environment for 4 hours. Before and after workshop training, the students were tested in a simulated environment with Models and pseudo-injured patients. To assess the impact of workshop on student learning, pre-test and post-test scores were compared. Student's satisfaction with operating workshop was evaluated by a reliable and valid questionnaire (a = 0.8).
Results
A significant difference was seen in students’ pre-test and post-test scores (p<0.001, df = 14, t=-6.41) and post-test scores increased compared to the pre-test scores. All students (100%) fully agreed with issues such as that the operational workshops has caused deep learning and that it creates the necessary readiness for students to work in a real environment.
Conclusion
It is recommended that emphasis be put on effective and operational training in practical skills training, especially in theoretical-practical courses so as to facilitate more the student learning to achieve skills.
