A Comparison and Ranking of Student's Sport and Recreation Needs with Presented Sport Extracurricular Activities in Tehran State Universities

The aim of this study was to compare student's sport needs with presented extracurricular programs in Tehran state universities. This study was application regarding the aim and a descriptive survey with regard to strategy. Data were collected by field method. Statistical population consisted of all male and female students of Tehran state universities in 2011-2012. Statistical sample was selected based on Morgan table (n=390). Data were collected by a researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed by t test and Friedman test. The results showed a significant difference between sport extracurricular programs presented in Tehran state universities and student's sport and recreational needs. There was a significant difference between the existing sport facilities and necessary and favorite sport fields of male and female students. The ranking of student's sport and recreational needs showed that swimming, futsal, football, volleyball and badminton were favorite sports among boys and swimming, badminton, volleyball and climbing were favorite sports among girls. Also, the results showed that gender played an important role in participation in sport programs and boys were more interested than girls to participate in sport and recreational activities.
