Waste management in Iran’s current laws: an overview of the laws enacted and the state with Assigned dutie

Waste management is one of the most important challenges facing of urban areas. The effective and proper management without appropriate legislation with an implementation assurance is not possible in modern life. By making a comprehensive legislation and its enforcement, the management costs will be reduced. Legislation of waste management can be act as a turning point, which indicating the Iranian legal system’s attention to the waste problem and it is considerable as an upstream document and infrastructure of new legislation. In this cross-sectional study, with considering the importance of comprehensive rules for waste management, executive laws and regulation were collected and reviewed to find duties of governmental agencies and failure to fulfill of them.
Results Obtained results showed that 6 ministries, two national organizations and an institution (i.e., interior ministry, ministry of health and medical education, ministry of agriculture Jihad, ministry of industries and business, ministry of energy, ministry of petroleum, institute of standards and industrial research of Iran, environmental protection agency of Iran and Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting Agency) are involved in the waste management plan. Extent, time consuming and totality of the waste management program has been led to dependency of the success of program to promote and perform of duties of each organs and, failure to achieve maximum success is as result of it, too.
