The assessment of khorramabad Khorramrood River water quality with Wilcox Index and Zoning by GIS

Water quality indexes can account quality of sources for determining various uses and users. The aim of this study was assessment of water quality in Khorramrood River in khorramabad (lolestan Provence) with the Wilcox index and zoning by GIS. In this cross-sectional study, quality parameters for  Wilcox index calculations such as pH, temperature, turbidity, total solids, total dissolved solids, Electrical conductivity, calcium, magnesium, Total Hardness and Sodium Adsorption Rate content for six months (from July to December 2012) were measured using standard methods at six sampling stations. The river zoning conducted with GIS software. The classification of water quality using WILCOX for agricultural purposes according to EC, Water River were two Class C2 and C3 (salinity risk Low and medium) and according to SAR were In Class S1 (Risk of alkaline low). Highest and lowest SAR was stations 3 and 2, respectively. The lowest electrical conductivity of Station 2 in August was equals 423/5 μs/cm and the highest for station 3 in October was equal 1081μs/cm. The results showed that WILCOX Water Quality Index is good indicator for the use water in agriculture. According to WILCOX index, Water quality in the station 3 was middle and the rest of the stations were good. The most important factors affecting the river water quality has been sedimentary and carbonates rocks in the river bed and studied area. These results allow decisions about monitoring and controlling water pollution sources, as well as provide efficient use for the different goals by relevant authorities.
