Stability and Development of Pyramid Scheme Networks during 2001-2010 (Qualitative Study of Quest Members Experiences in Tehran)

One of most important social issues during 2001-2010 was the development of pyramid scheme companies. Despite Official denouncement of these actives and negative public attitude, these companies were rapidly growing all over the country. The aim of this study was to identify the causes of the continuation and expansion of activities of these companies based on Quest members experiences. Data was gathered through in-depth interviews with 31 Quest members and content analysis of educational material used in this network. The results showed that the participants attitude toward success, jobs and income, was an important factor in the continuation of the activities. In addition to the hierarchical structure of the relationships in the network, a powerful ideology was active to maintain motivation and energy of the members.
