Abstract:

Antioxidant and Antiapoptotic Effect of Resveratrol in Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Rats. Oxidative stress is strongly associated with development and the complications of diabetes. In the present study¡ we have investigated the effect of resveratrol on antioxidants status in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats.48 male wistar rats with were randomly assigned into four equal groups namely healthy control vehicle treated group (normal saline)¡ healthy group received resveratrol (5 mg/kg)¡ diabetic control group and diabetic group treated with resveratrol (5 mg/kg). The experimental rats were treated in related groups for 16 weeks and at the end of experiment the level of malonaldehyde (MDA) and anti-oxidant enzymes activity including superoxide dismutase (SOD)¡ glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) were measured in red blood cells.
