The Place of Reading Culture in Elementary School Social Science Textbooks

Abstract:
Purpose
To analyze reading culture components in social science textbooks of Iranian Elemantary School.
Methodology
An applied research using content analysis. The population includes social science textbooks of Iranian Elemtary School.
Results
Reading culture components are mentioned 264 times in first grade social science textbooks and 40, 54, 49 and 121 times in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades respectively. "Awareness about proper reading strategies" is highly considered while "incentives toward reading" is less noted.
Conclusion
Reading culture in textbooks is not really significant and not even compliant with psychological situation of students.
