Technology: A Disintegrative Factor in the Arab World
Author(s):
Abstract:
A major question raised in this article is whether the adoption of technologically dependent policies by the Arab societies have gradually reduced the economic, political and cultural exchanges between them. It is argued that the Arab states have been unable to confront technological challenges posed by the Westerners since the 15th century. Their vulnerability against outside interference has increased and this factor in turn has led to disintegration of the Arab World. Furthermore, the author claims that technological dependency is a cause of most civil wars, instability and socio-economic underdevelopment of Arab states. These countries are endowed with enormous natural and human resources, but they are not capable of responding to technological challenges because of the existence of dependent political and economic systems.
