The Effect of Governance and Intellectual Property Right on Knowledge Spillover in Selected Developing Countries

Abstract:
The role of knowledge and component of the knowledge-based in economic activities in order to achieve continuous and sustainable economic growth and development are of particular importance. So, the factors determining the knowledge spillovers are important. Hence, the present study using panel data approach; evaluates the effect of governance and intellectual property right on knowledge spillovers (the channel of imports and foreign direct investment) in selected developing during the period 2001-2011. The results indicate that, the effect of governance and intellectual property rights on knowledge spillovers in developing countries are positive and significant. Also, the estimation results show that gross domestic product per capita and human capital variables have positive and significant effect on knowledge spillovers in developing countries. In addition, a significant and positive relationship between openness and Knowledge Spillover (the channel of imports of goods) and a significant negative relationship between openness and Knowledge Spillover (the channel of foreign direct investment) is established
