Application of Placecheck Method in Cityscape Analysis: (A Review on Hobart City in Australia)

Urban design with a cooperative approach is so important that can have substantial impacts on increasing the efficiency of urban spaces. With the cooperation of the users of urban spaces in making decisions for the quality promotion of their life and work spaces¡ better spaces would be created. One of the most important factors in evaluating urban spaces is urban landscape that is directly related to the individual’s sensation and also influences his perception of the space. Therefore¡ urban landscape has attracted the attention of architects¡ designers¡ environmental psychologists and sociologists. There are many ways of cooperating citizens in the process of urban decisions. One of these ways is the place check technique that provides this possibility for the citizens to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their urban spaces and cooperate effectively for the improvement of conditions. Hobart city is the successful sample of using this technique for the evaluation of the quality of the city connectivity routs. This study discusses specifically the findings of Hobart city about the evaluation of urban landscape. Such experiences can be examined models for advancing collaborative work.
