The Evaluation of Time Proportion to Educational Effectiveness of General Physical Education Course (1) in Tehran State Universities

Abstract:
Time is one of the effective factors of education in physical education courses. The aim of this study was to investigate the proportion of time of general PE course (1) to the educational effectiveness of this course and its relationship with the effectiveness of different aspects of education. The method was descriptive-survey and the data were gathered by field method. The population included coaches and professors of Tehran universities who taught general PE courses (N=82). The sample equaled the population. A researcher-made questionnaire was used after its validity and reliability were approved (α=0.77). Findings showed that the time dedicated to PE course in each session and during each semester was not proportionate to the content, teaching methods, objectives and type of evaluation. It was just proportionate to the effectiveness of feedback and the evaluation after each subject. It is essential that the content and syllabus of the general PE course are proportionate to the time of this course and the number of participants in each class is limited so that the course can be more useful in the determined time and syllabus.
