Analyzing and modeling the relationships of peer leader's behavior with team cohesion, collective efficacy and perceived team success among collegiate basketball teams

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of peer leaders’ behavior with team dynamics and perceived team success among collegiate basketball teams. the population of this study consisted of all players of 28 boy and girl teams (N= 336) that participated in Eleventh Sport Olympiad, out of which 200 athletes completed and returned the questionnaires, That analyzed as study sample. After estimation the questionnaires validity and reliability, the multifactor leadership, group environment, team collective efficacy and perceived team success (PTS) questionnaires were used to collect the data. Findings indicated that transformational leadership has a positive and significant effect on team efficacy and cohesion but don’t show significant effect on PTS, also transactional and laissez-fair leadership have not a significant effect on three Endogenous factors (collective efficacy, team cohesion and PTS). The section of total effect indicated that the largest effect on perceived team success was related to transformational style. Endogenous Variables’ R-Square indicated that 31% of PTS variance by transformational style, cohesion and collective efficacy, 14% of cohesion variance and 07% of collective efficacy variance by transformational leadership style predicted. Also, the Model showed a good fit to the data.
