An evaluation of relationship between social security and value system of adolescent (Case study: students of Yazd University)
The value system of a society composes of elements that are important for majority of population which can help meet the spiritual and material needs of the society. In the view point of some experts, this value systems are classified into the initial or material values (related to biological needs of the people) and other secondary or post material values (including social and moral values). The value preferences of people are affected by multiple and different factors. One of the most basic needs is social security, which is simultaneously influential on and affected by other dimensions of value system. This study tries to investigate value system of students based on theory of Maslow's hierarchy of needs and Inglehart's cultural evolution theory. It also tries to show the interrelationship between value system and feeling of social security. Data of the research is collected in survey method and by using researcher-made questioners.، 324 students as the sample were selected in Yazd University in 2012 via stratified random sampling. The result of the research shows that students have medium level of materialistic values. The results indicate that age, gender, marital status, and socio-economic status have no significant relation with the value system of students (include materialistic and post materialistic values). However, feeling of social security has significant revers relation with the material values. It has significant direct relation to post material value orientation of students.
