Ayatollah JavadiAmoli on the role of context in interpretation and its appearance in his own interpretations

The present essay is about siyāq, the intertextual evidences or context in interpretation and Qurʾānic sciences. This concept has its roots in the interpretations belonged to the second century A.H. This essay pursues to show the role of siyāq in discovering the meanings of Qurʾānic verses, its nature and position in interpretation, and its types and justification according to the views of Ayatollah JavadiAmoli. In doing so, some instances of its application will be shown in interpretations, especially in Ayatollah Javadi’sTasnim Interpretation. The abundance of using siyāq in Tasnim Interpretation reveals the enthusiasm of the author to apply this rule for discovering the meaning of Qurʾānic verses. According to Ayatollah Javadi, in the conflicts between siyāq and sebāq the priority must be given to sebāq, and in the conflicts between siyāq and Hadith it must be given to siyāq.
