Stations of Khizr (a) in Iraq

Author(s):
Abstract:
The majority of Muslims believe that Khizr (a) is one of God’s saints, and after drinking the water of eternity, gained eternal life. Although the Qur’an hasn’t explicitly mentioned Khizr (a), but Shi’a sources of narration have introduced him as one of God’s prophets, although there is disagreement about his name and ancestors. He is called Khizr (a) because beneath him vegetates wherever he sits or prays.
Muslims believe that Khizr (a) is the representative on land, and Ilyas is the representative on water, and both live an eternal life. The fact that Khizr (a) has an eternal life is the reason why many pilgrimage places in the Islamic land have been identified as the station of Khizr. Iraq, is one of the Islamic countries which has 150 known sites as the station of Khizr, some of which are placed in holy Shi’a places such as the Mosque of Kufah and al-Sahlah Mosque. Some of these stations are shared with Ilyas and are called Khizr Ilyas.
This article briefly introduces Khizr (a), his position in Shi’a belief, and his eternal life, and also introduces some of the places which are the station of Khizr the Prophet (a) in Iraq for its readers.
