Summarized Report on the Academic Assembly on Jurisprudential Study of Pilgrimage in Islamic Sects

Author(s):
Abstract:
From the beginning, all divine religions have recommended visiting the graves and have considered it connecting with the soul of the demised. Islam too, highly recommends visiting the graves of religious elites. In the four Sunni sects and all Shi’a subsects, pilgrimage has a valuable position and has its own special rituals, culture, and decorum. The Shi’a have a special belief and affection for pilgrimage of the Shrine of the Noble Prophet (s) and Infallible Imams (a), specially Imam Husayn (a), and have many narrations on the virtues of such pilgrimage.
The Wahhabi sect is the only sect that not only bans visiting the graves, but considers it polytheism, even the Shrine of the Noble Prophet (s). Most Shi’a and Sunni scholars however, stress on the neutrality and recommendation of visiting the graves of religious elites.
This article gives a summarized report on the academic assembly on jurisprudential study of pilgrimage in Islamic sects, where two great teachers of the seminary, Mr. Najm ul-Din Moravveji Tabasi and Mohammad Amin Pouramini lectured in the A`imiye Athar Jurisprudential Center in the holy city of Qom.
