The Critical Rereading of History (Discourse-Analysing Historiography of Kurdistan)

Abstract:
Historical discourse is one of the aspects of meaning to contemporary cultural identities and is constructed via collective memory, narrative, fantasy and myths. One of the fields which has dealt with rethinking critical history and has reformulated it in relation to power and control systems is postcolonial theory.
This study tries to reread historical discourses about Kurdistan and their narrative aspects as well as discursive formulations. In this study, by means of Ernesto Lacao’ critical discourse methodology, we have studied the historical texts by Kurdish and European writers about Kurdistan history. The overall conclusion of this study is that postcolonial and nationalist discourses are the contexts in which the history of Kurdistan has been recorded; in this history Eurocentric and nationalist-teleological narratives are the narrative form of this history.
