Comparing the Problem-Solving Styles and Personality Characteristics (Grey-Wilson) of Group Quarrelers Referred to Law Enforcement Agencies with Ordinary People

The Turbulent life and urban excitement, having its particular situation, facilitate the commission of crime species, including strife and conflict. The aim of this study was to compare the personality characteristics and problem-solving styles of quarrelers and ordinary people.

In terms of its objectives, the present study is of an applied research type and in terms of methodology it is of a survey research type. In this study, 30 individuals who participated in group quarrel and referred to law enforcement agencies, were assigned into an experimental group and the other 30 individuals, who didn’t have quarrel experience, with the similar characteristics were assigned into the control group. These individuals were selected from parks and sport centers using convenience sampling method. Two personality questionnaires of "Gary-Wilson" and problem-solving inventory (PSI) were used for data collection. The data were analyzed using SPSS software and T-test.

The findings indicated a significant difference between group quarrelers and ordinary people in personality characteristics and their components (behavioral activation) and ordinary people outperformed their counterparts in both of them. In the problem-solving styles and their components (confidence in problem-solving and self-control), the results also indicated a significant difference between the experimental and control groups and the scores of ordinary people were higher than quarrelers' in both problem-solving methods and their components
