Strategic Responses and Institutional Pressures

Abstract:
Some researchers have linked the institutional perspective with strategic choice to better understanding of institutional pressures with organizational strategic responses. Managers and policymakers, by better understanding of the relation between institutional factors and strategic responses, may be able to decline the cost of producing social legitimacy. The present study seeks to understand the relationship between strategic responses and institutional pressures in food and beverage industry. For this purpose, using Oliver framework for strategic responses, a two-part questionnaire produced and its validity was as content validity and determined by scholars, and its reliability calculated by Cronbach’s alpha coefiicient. 165 questionnaires were distributed among active companies’ managers and owners, and then 77 questionnaires collected. Therefore, the hypothesis tested by regression and correlation tests by SPSS software. The findings indicate that Oliver’s Model is relatively consistent with food and beverage industry and in this area; it partly describes the companies’ behaviors to institutional pressures.
