Children's Literature in Iran's Primary School Textbooks

Abstract:
In order to evaluate the application of primary school textbooks in different aspects such as poetry and fiction, 43 textbooks from primary school are examined through content analysis in this study. The findings showed that 231 fictions and 95 poetries are used in primary school textbooks. Grade 3, with 70 cases is placed in the first level, grade 5 with 65 cases in the second level, and grade 1, with 32 cases in the last level. Farsi books with 201 cases and Heavenly Gifts (Hediyehay Asemani) with 104 cases are placed in first and second places. Among 116 poets of primary school textbooks, 19% are women and 72% are men. Kobra Hashemi with 9 poem and Mostafa Rahmandoost, Mahmood Kiyanoush (contemporary poets) and Saadi (old poets) with 6 poems stand in next places. Students are familiar with only 30 writer’s names. The word story is repeated about 231 times, poetry is repeated about 65 times and poet 35 times is the most frequent words. Also, the illustration of Quran reading (44 times), book (30 times), and reading (28 times) are the most frequent illustrations.
