The Relationship between Self Esteem, Humorous Styles and Shyness in Prediction of Student's Loneliness Feeling

Abstract:
The aim of present study was the determination of the role of self-esteem, humorous styles and shyness in prediction of students’ loneliness feeling. The research method was correlational method which categorized as descriptive methods. The population was all Damghan high school students. The sample research was 250 students (125 boys, and 125 girls) that selected available sampling, and Rozenberg’s self-esteem, Martin’s humor, Chick’s and Brig’s shyness, and Dehshiri’s loneliness feeling scales administered among selected sample. The results showed significant negative correlation between shyness and self-esteem. There is significant negative correlation between affiliative and self-enhancing humor styles, with loneliness feeling. Also, there is significant positive correlation between self-esteem and loneliness and its components. The results of regression analysis by stepwise method showed self-esteem, self-enhancing humor style, and shyness were most significant predictors in prediction of loneliness feeling, respectively. Altogether, these are explained 34% of loneliness feeling variance. These results indicated the worthful role of self-esteem and using of adaptive humorous styles for disappearing of students’ shyness and loneliness feelings.
