Comparison of the Effectiveness of Mindfulness Training and Help Seeking Method on Reduce Student's Academic Stress

Abstract:
The present research aimed at comparing the effectiveness of mindfulness training and help seeking method on the reduction of academic stress in the students of Tabriz. Research method was quasi experimental with pretest and posttest design with control group. Research participants included 90 female students in high school of educational district 1 in Tabriz in the academic year 2013-2014 who were selected using random cluster sampling and were randomly assigned in experimental and control groups. Students in the experimental group received help seeking strategy training for 12 sessions and students in the experimental group receied mindfulness strategy trainings for 8 sessions. At the same time, the control group continued their regular classroom program. To evaluate academic stress Kohen and Frazer's questionnaire was used. Data were analyzed by univariate analysis of covariance. The results showed that there was significant differences between mindfulness training and help seeking method on the reduction of academic stress. Also the results showed that mindfulness strategies were effective in reducing academic stress.
