Rivers in Shahnameh
Author(s):
Abstract:
Rivers in Shahnameh are remarkable and outstanding places that could be scrutinised because, as with heroes, they have characters, and beyond their typical properties, they also carry with them personal traits. Mythified, rivers have become enigmatic, ensuing mythical events. With their magical water, rivers have expanded upon the bounds of myths. And all these are the portrayal of an abstract, miniature river whose feature is to always flow and to sporadically flood.
In this article, amongst the rivers mentioned in Shahnameh, we only focus on the rivers where an event takes place, such as Arvand Rud, Kaseh Rud, the Euphrates, Oxus, Sanbar, Helmand, etc, so that we could bespeak Ferdowsis fidelity and the illustration of Shahnamehs geographical and mythical significance.
