The Intellectual and Social Causes of Rise and Fall of the Jungle Movement

There are various views about Jungle movement and causes of its appearance, collapse, goals, military tactics and operation. Members of the movement expressed their goals as follows: "Firstly, we are in search of independence in all senses of the word which is getting rid of any intervention of foreign government and fundamental reforms to eliminate corruption in state administration. We are in favor of unity of Muslims." With having studied different views and the history of Jungle Movement, it can be understood that, despite its short life and the limited geographical sphere of influence in the north of the country, still there are so many blur points and questions about the rise and fall of the movement which urges Sociological, historical and intellectual study. So, in this paper, main issue is devoted to find social-intellectual clues of the rise and fall of the socalled Movement. Sociology is the since of understanding social interacts which is due to realization of the concept which the doer of the action takes for granted. In social science, the scholar should be able to realize the doer of the action directly, i.e. understanding the doer’s action according to his logic. Every action has its own purpose which is socially meaningful. In this respect, researcher’s role is to find out the social act of the doer. Main question of this paper is probing the formation and the social-intellectual origins of rise and fall of the Jungle Movement. The method of this article is historic and desk study. The movement have three social- intellectual roots: religion, nationalism and socialism. Moreover, its logical actions can be understood through probing set of actions of both elites and interpreters.
