Literary Discourse Analysis of Jihad sermon

In general, discourse refers to language structures higher than a sentence level. Discourse analysis is one device of analyzing literary texts that studies and describes the relation between discourse-based structures and dominated social views about the production of discourse. Literary discourse analysis as one branch of discourse analysis is concerned with studying and criticizing literary texts from language and textual structures point of view and their harmony with situational texture. Nahj al-Balagha as a collection of words, below the holy Quran and above the human beings, has always been under analysis and study of scholars. One of the outstanding characteristics of Nahj al-Balagha is its literary discourse that seems to be less studied and analyzed while part of the beauty of Imam’s speech is related to relation and harmony between intertextual literal devices and their situational texture. The present study tries to analyze one of the famous sermons of Nahj al-Ballagha called Jihad with the help of descriptive-analytic method and from aspect of literary discourse analysis and to find out according to harmony among text’s structure and their situational textures, what characteristics does the literary discourse of the sermon have? The results of the study have show that structures of the sermon according to their situational texture which is the failure of audience in holy war, is for arousing audience’s emotion and awakening them from negligence.
