Abstract:
The present research is intended to describe history of sport participation in physical activity and sport by members of family of the elite athletes. For this purpose 119 athletes were chosen from various sport fields by available sampling method. Developmental history of athletes’ questionnaire (Hopwood, 2013) DHAQ was employed for data collection. In this inventory, rate of participation by father, mother, sister, and brother (siblings) of athletes in general fitness activities, recreational activities, and competitive sports was measured at two levels i.e. ‘I have never occasionally participated’ and ‘I have participated’. Based on findings, more than a half of fathers and mothers had history of participation in fitness and recreational activities but less percent of them had participated in contest activities. Similarly, frequency of participation by sisters and brothers (siblings) was 65.3% in general fitness activities, 83.1% in recreational sport/ informal sporting games, and 56.1% in competitive sports. Accordingly, more than a half of relatives of athletes had background in physical activities.
