An investigation into the relationship of defensive mechanisms and identity crisis by following fashion among the students of Ardakan University

This research was carried out to investigate the relationship of defensive mechanisms and identity crisis by following fashion among the students. The population included all the female and male students of Ardakan University in the scholar year 93-94. 120 people were selected by random sampling method. The research tool included Hosseini’s defensive mechanisms questionnaire and Ahmadi’s identity crisis questionnaire. Pearson correlation coefficient was used in order to analyze the data. The results obtained from analyzing the data showed that the is a significant line between the defensive mechanisms and identity crisis and following fashion among the female and male students. Moreover, among the female students, the correlation of immature defensive mechanisms and fallowing fashion is significant. Among the male students, the correlation of hurt-feelings defensive mechanisms and following fashion is significant. Therefore, it is proposed that in order to reduce fashion- following as a way to identification, some methods should be taught to teenagers which lead to the improvement in their defensive mechanisms.
