Personality Disorders and Addiction

One of the dangerous phenomena puts the human at risk of mental, moral, and physical collapse is drug addiction, and it impacts negatively on individual, family and society. Drug addiction has economic, emotional and social imposes on individuals and society. Addiction as a chronic and relapsing disorder is affected by multifactor. What is important is that addiction is preventable and curable, but the addiction treatment is not easy because it is affected by several factors. Prevention is more effective and less costly than addiction treatment and by understanding the vulnerabilities to use drugs in individuals, we could help them to prevent addiction. Personality disorders have a high comorbidity with substance abuse and causing the vulnerability in individuals using drugs. So with a diagnosis of personality disorders in individuals with substance abuse could choose effective drug addiction treatment. The use of psychiatry and psychology services along with medical treatment in the substance abuse treatment centers is needed.
