Background
Quality improvement in higher education is one of the approaches which is taken into consideration in many higher education systems in recent decades. On the other hand, to respond to the rapid changes in the medical field, medical education should be changed and new training methods should be used. One of these methods is simulation-based training.
Methods
This is a review article. To collect the data, Google Scholar, SID, and Science Direct databases were searched to find articles published inthe years 2005-2013.
Result
Simulation plays an important role in medical education. In healthcare, it is emphasized to provide proper and safe care and simulators let learners practice with minimal environmental threats and help them to achieve this goal. Therefore, simulation-based training and evaluation play an important role in achieving patient safety. In addition, learners will be ready to perform safely and effectively in the future.
Conclusion
Finding the correct combination of traditional methods, simulation and the experience of patient care is a critical challenge in training. It is clear that to achieve more effective simulation, focusing on goals and key skills, careful preparation of scenarios, providing feedback and performance assessment and the suitability of simulation with professional needs are necessary.
