Studying the Ornamentations, Arrays and Illuminations in works of Herat School in Astan Quds Razavi Quranic Manuscripts

Abstract:
Purpose
The present study aimed at studying the arrays and illumination of Herat school according to the Quranic manuscripts available in the Library and Documents Center of the Holy threshold (shrine) of Imam Reza.
Methodology
This is an applied study using descriptive method with a qualitative approach. By analysis of the volumes of the Quranic treasure of the Holy threshold (shrine) of Imam Reza, 10 Quran manuscripts were selected. This study was carried out through a methodical consideration and categorizing of the arrays and illuminations of 10 Quranic manuscripts of Herat school into two parts including inside of the text (the papers of the volumes) and outside of the text (book binding).
Findings: By description of the arrays and illumination of Quranic manuscripts, the findings were: the frontispiece 40%, the illuminated board 60%, the medallion 10%, the illuminated verses 100%, the decoration of the end of Quran 20% have been applied in the volumes.
Results
The obtained results of this study show that the great Quran and exquisite has many evidences from the Herat school and their decorative features identified in the this research are numerous.
