Effects of Neurofeedback Training on Balance and Reaction Time of Track and Field Athletes

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of neurofeedback training on balance and reaction time of track and field athletes. 48 athletes in both genders were voluntarily participated in this study and were involved in a double-blind research design including control, sham and two experimental groups; The first treatment group inhibited four-seven Hz and reinforced 15-18 Hz brainwaves at O1 and O2 regions and second treatment group reinforced β1 brainwaves at Cz and Fz regions for 12 sessions and 15 minutes per session. The results showed significant changes in reducing the selective reaction time and improving balance in treatment groups. Based on the results, neurofeedback training can be used to improving perceptual-motor abilities of athletes such as balance and reaction time.
