Abstract:
Using qualitative and quantitative mixed method, the relationship between training strategies and professional development of Iranian seafarers and education in maritime simulators, was studied in this research. For the statistical analysis of quantitative data, binomial test was used in order to examine the effect of the variable on education and, Friedman test was used to examine and rank the effective factors on teaching and education programs. This research concluded that, the training is not limited to activities that happen in the classroom and it depends on a variety of factors. In order to use simulators in the most effective way, we should consider these variables. Organizational and social culture, maintaining maritime safety culture, management skills, seafarer’s ability in reducing human factors, standardizing simulator training scenarios, reviewing the model courses, increasing the ratio of time spent on practical section in relation to the theoretical section, using a standard evaluation system to improve maritime skills, using new training methods, conducting training for simulator trainers and assessors and accessing web based simulator are the factors that influence the seafarer’s performance.
