Syrian crisis and Iran's national security from the point of view of «Balance of Threat» theory

Syria’s crisis has become one of the most important events that have influenced Iran’s foreign policy and national security. For years, Syria has played the role of being a gateway for Iran to the Arab worlds as much as a strategic link to Mediterranean and Near East which accordingly Syria’s getting weaken and President Bashar Assad fallen, would undermine Iran’s strength influencing the region.

2- Description of the influence of Syrian crisis on Iran’s national security affecting various areas
3-Explanation of how Iran can compete with regional and trans-regional powers in Syria
By any other means, this paper follows a hypothesis which Iran’s national security reduces as a result of continuing crisis in Syria due to increasing threats of regional and trans-regional competitions.
For proving the hypothesis, one has contributed the balance of threat (BOT) theory which could analyze any potential threats facing Iran’s (in Syria).
The findings showed that Syria’s crisis is a threat against Iran’s security and due to disturbance of the balance of threat against Iran; this country tries to balance the power by resolving the mentioned crisis.
