Mapping air pollution of particulate matter by AQI index and GIS (Case study: District 9 of Tehran municipality)

Air has a critical role for human survival. Over the past few years, the uncontrolled urban expansion, population growth and industrial development have caused numerous environmental problems. Air pollution has been one of the most important problems that are permanent and serious threat to public health and the environment. In order to the necessity of identify pollutants and harmful effects of pollution; this study aimed to determine the concentration of suspended particles, identify and assess potential air quality in the 9th District of Tehran.
Thus, the concentration of PM10 and PM2.5, the seasonal time scale was measured. Then they conversed to the AQI unit and Arc GIS software was used to zoning.
Based on the results of this study, particulate matter PM2.5 pollution as the most important factor in the region. With the lowest average concentration in May (19 micrograms per cubic meter) and the highest concentration in the month of February 2015 (81 micrograms per cubic meter) and November 2016 (85 micrograms per cubic meter) were estimated.
So spring as the "cleanest" and the autumn and winter "most contaminated" seasons was determined. Based on AQI, the regional air quality was in the normal range to unhealthy for sensitive groups (40 to 105 average minimum and maximum index). Traffic agent was identified as one of the effective factors in the contamination area.
