Relationshiprelationship between aleteration zone and Kalmard fault system in the Ozbak-Kuh area, Central iran

Abstract:
Remote sensing is considered as a beneficial tool to recognize ground phenomenon, particularly in the region where the rocks have been exposed well due to low vegetation. As altered areas contain special minerals, we have evaluated the alteration of some minerals namely Illite, Kaolinite, Goethite, Hematite and Jarosite in Ozbak-Kuh Mountain. In order to perform this research, we used ASTER image to discern ferruginous minerals and ferric hydroxide in the study area. Thus, we applied both Log Residuals method to preprocess and Matched Filtering (MF) method to identify alterations. Then, we made the alteration map for each mineral in Ozbak-Kuh area and analyzed the relationship between the main faults and alterations. The results have indicated the key role of the main faults such as F1, F2 and F3 on the alterations in this part of Iran. Furthermore, the field studies has shown that the strikes of these faults are the parallel to Ozbak-Kuh mountain in NW-SE direction and the kinematic of them is right lateral strike slip with reverse elements, which is similar to the Kalmard fault in the Central Iran. Since these faults have been considered as the main segments of Kalmard fault zone, this research has represented the important influence role of the Kalmard fault zone on different phases of alterations in the Ozbak kuh area.
