The Analysis of a Hybrid Modeling for Determination of TOC in Source Rocks from the Ahwaz Oilfield

Abstract:
Total organic carbon (TOC) is one of the important parameters in source-rock geochemical studies. This important parameter is measured by Rock-Evel pyrolysis. This method is more accurate, but it requires high cost and time. This research has proposed a modern hybrid model for the estimation of TOC. PSO-BP hybrid model is an evaluated algorithm by combining particle swarm optimization (PSO) with back propagation (BP) algorithms. The algorithm with high correlation finds the relation between 4 petrophysical logs (GR, CNL, LLD, and DT) with amount of TOC. In this case study, source rock samples from Pabdeh, Gourpi and Kajdomi formations in the Ahwaz oilfield are interested. Results show that there is high correlation between estimated TOC by PSO-BP model and measured TOC by Rock-Eval pyrolysis. The correlation of the results with previously studies demonstrates that PSO-BP model is more applicable than the individual algorithms or recently similar combined models in the Ahwaz oilfield.
