Inter-institutional collaboration of Iranian patents indexed in international patent databases

Innovation in a Knowledge Based Economy, can be a new interpretation of the triple helix model in three-dimensional space of the university, government and industry and patents are linked to innovation as a result of its performance in this model . In this study, the Inter-institutional collaboration of Iranian patents in international patent databases are analyzed.
organizational affiliation of Iranian patents retrieved from US Patents and Trademarks office (USPTO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European patents office (EPO) from 1976 to 2013 analyzed and according to supporters of the patent or patent owners to three individuals, companies, universities and research institutes are divided.
460 patents retrieved that 120 degrees are supported by Iranian organizations and 167 degrees supported by individual owners that Petroleum Industry Research center has 33 patents, followed by the shahid Beheshti Medical Science University with 8 patents. The Inter-institutional collaboration between patent is very limited.
appropriate policies should be adopted to widen the university and industrial companies’ collaboration in the field of invention and innovation quickly.
