A Textual Study of al-Shiqshiqiyya Sermon Emphasis on Searle's Speech Act Theory

Abstract:
Speech act theory is one of the important topics of discourse analysis in linguistics. Astin was the first one explained it. Then, Searl propounded five assortment. This assortment includes representative or assertive act, directive act, commissive act, expressive act and declarative act. According to this theory, the roles of verbs and sentenses could be analized.
According to this theory, the textual review of religious texts for axample the Quran and Nahj al-Balāgha could be one ways of deeper understanding in these books. The shiqshiqiyya sermon is one of important sermons. This sermon is very powerful schema linguistically in addition to its religious and moral teachings. So, this article wants to study the sermon based on the descriptive - analytical method and context analysis and used statistical method.
Some results show the assertive act and then the directive act have highest frequency in the sermon. It harmonizes the main theme of the text because Imam Ali try to explain the historical story of "Saghifa" generally.
