Comparison of attachment styles, emotional styles, and locus of control among substance abusers people and normal people

The aim of present study was to compare attachment styles, emotional styles, and locus of control in substance abusers and normal people. The research method was a descriptive- comparative. The study population of the present research consisted of all normal men and all male substance abusers referred to addiction treatment centers in Kermanshah. The study sample comprised 304 substance abusers and normal individuals in two groups. Convenient sampling method was used. Groups were matched in terms of age and levels of education. For collecting data, the scale Rotter, adult attachment styles and emotional style's questionnaire were used. The results showed that there was a significant difference between substance abusers and normal people in attachment styles, emotional styles and locus of control. Avoidant and ambivalent attachment style, secrecy emotional style and external locus of control were significantly higher in the group of substance abusers. According to the study results, we can say that attachment style, emotional style, and locus of control are effective in tendency to addiction. Thus, according to the results of this study, the possible reasons for the tendency to addiction are insecure attachment style, incorrect emotional style, and external locus of control.
