Visualization and Analysis of Co-authorship Networks of the Shahid Behehsti University Researchers in Humanities, Social Sciences and Art

Co-authorship is an important indicator and the most common measure of formal scientific collaboration. A series of collaborative publications create a social network which can be studied in order to understand the network characteristics.
This study is an applied research using scientometric and social network analysis data. A total of 282 articles in the area of social sciences, humanities and art which specified Shahid Beheshti University as their affiliated institution and indexed by the Thomson Reuters until the 1 March 2014, were selected as the population of study. Microsoft Excel, UCINet and VOSViewer software were utilized for data analysis. Overall structure of the network was investigated using a few macro-level metrics. Additionally, micro-level metrics were adopted to analyze the performance and status of researchers in the network.
Findings: Macro-level metrics shows the co-authorship network of Shahid Beheshty University researchers demonstrated low cohesion. According to the findings, the most important and prolific authors in terms of both productivity and centrality measures are: Hamidreza Pouretemad,Vahid Nejati, Mohsen Dehghani, Mohammad Ali Mazaheri, Mojtaba Zarei. Styding the co-authorship network of institutions, the top spots are taken by the Shahid Beheshty University of Medical Sciences, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran University, Tarbiat Modaress University and Baghiatollah University of Medical Science.
The short mean distant (4.347) coupled with high clustering coefficient (0.779) indicates that the network seems to exhibit “small world” network properties
