The effect of education on promoting preventive behaviors of premenstrual syndrome in female teenagers: Health Belief Model application

Abstract:
Background And Objectives
Premenstrual syndrome to reduced quality of life, social and academic performance in teenagers and young women effective. In view of the importance of maintaining the health of female teenagers, this study aimed to determine the effect of education based on Health Belief Model on promoting preventive behaviors of premenstrual syndrome in female teenagers was conducted.
Materials And Methods
This quasi-experimental study was conducted among 120 girl students (n=60 in each of two experimental and control groups). Subjects were selected by multistage sampling method. Data collection included demographic characteristics questionnaire and a Self-made questionnaire including knowledge, behavior and the health belief model structures about PMS. The educational intervention consisted of 4 Lecture sessions of 45-60 minutes. The data analyzed using SPSS software version 16 and appropriate tests.
Results
Before the intervention, there was no significant difference the two groups in characteristics of demographic and contextual, as well as in characteristics of knowledge, preventive behaviors and all Structures of the health belief model (p>0.05). Conclusions
Education based on health belief model was effective in adopting preventive behaviors of PMS. Given the importance of the health of girls as future mothers and low cost compared to other activities in the field of health education, the need to develop and extend these programs seem necessary.
